Hugh “The King” McElhenny Autographed 1955 Style RT Suspension Football Helmet
RK model Football Helmet with floppy leather jaw pads, 6 point suspension, one bar mask, 32 hole ventilation and painted red with silver center stripe of the San Francisco 49ers, and autographed in person by All-Time great and Hall of Famer Hugh “The King” McElhenny.
McElhenny got his nickname in his rookie season after a phenomenal performance against the Chicago Bears when he was awarded the game ball and dubbed “The King of all halfbacks” by the 49ers quarterback at the time, Frankie Albert. Soon after he would become a member of the 49ers famed “Million Dollar Backfield.”
Any item with an inscription like this is surely one of the most desirable and valuable kind, and this specimen is a beautiful example as it is autographed in bold appropriate silver paint pen.
This beautiful helmet was built with single bar facemask as introduced by Riddell in 1955 and worn by McElhenny that year. McElhenny was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame during his first year of eligibility in 1970 and his number 39 was ultimately retired by the Forty Niners.
