Maryland Terrapins 1958 Authentic Game Used Riddell Kra-Lite RK4 Football Helmet

Authentic and original Game Used Maryland Terrapins full size RIDDELL Kra-Lite RK4 suspension Football Helmet. Based on research we believe this helmet was worn by offensive lineman and 3-time Maryland letterman Fred Cole.

Fred Cole was a captain of the Terrapins team as a Senior in 1958, winning the team’s award for most outstanding lineman, and was a 6h round draft pick by the Chicago Bears in 1959. Cole played a year in the Canadian Football League with Winnipeg’s Grey Cup Championship team in 1959 before coming to the AFL. He started 14 games for the San Diego Chargers at right guard in the AFL’s inaugural season of 1960.

This is an absolutely amazing find, and a truly rare helmet in outstanding condition. The helmet sports appropriate colored and painted on stripes, and still has original leather jaw pads, although they are growing brittle. Helmet also has white 2-bar facemask as shown and has team identification number of 555 as well as Cole’s number 75 written in black felt tip pen inside the helmet.
