Authentic Vintage Houston Oilers Rare Rawlings RTS Football Helmet 1981

Very rare and original Vintage Rawlings RTS “Noodle” Football Helmet from the Houston Oilers.

This is an original Oilers team issued helmet, although we do not have documentation it was ever used in a game, or which player may have used it. This beauty includes rare and authentic team issued decals and stripes.

The RTS was called the “Noodle” helmet due to Rawlings revolutionary use of large surgical tubing between the air padding and the shell to provide extra protection. This helmet includes a rare complete set of tubing and padding.

Please note the original noodles were brittle and most had broken so we actually purchased new tubing and replaced the brittle tubing. Talk about a challenge! But it turned out so good! Everything else on this amazing helmet is in tact and original including the forehead pad with Oilers stamping as provided by Rawlings for the team.

Although the RTS was only made for a few years, it was a mainstay for several NFL teams and many star players.

This is a nice large size 7 1/4 helmet just as many of the Oilers stars from this era wore. See picture of Earl Campbell for reference only.

Helmet shows attractive minor wear while still retaining its original shine, and is dated 6-81, for June 1981. Helmet came to us without a facemask, so we added the original NOP-DW mask you see here to match the photo, as well as matching clips.

Will make a stunning display, and looks like it just came off the field! Please note that we are not claiming this helmet was worn by Mr. Campbell. This is rare item indeed, and is perfect for that Oilers fan who has everything!
